An Old Cats outfit lacking a couple of key players came up short against a motivated and tenacious Battersea side who defended stoutly and took their chances well. Cats won enough ball but lacked some cohesion out wide to take advantage. However, it was great to see a number of fringe players get good game time notably Joel, James, George, Luke and Felix. This can only be good for the development of the squad as a whole.
The first half saw Ironsides score early to take a 12-0 lead but Cats battled back with Ollie, Dobbo and Will B all carrying strongly. Both Luke and Tom, who had started strongly had to go off but after 10 minutes of pressure Bow found space through the middle to score under the posts. Unfortuneately, Joel could not convert and just before half time Ironsides scored another try after poor defence on the blindside which they converted to go 19-5 up.
Playing down hill in the second period Cats had a chance to come on strong but credit to Ironsides they defended well and at crucial times Cats made errors or dropped off tackles leading to two more scores for the visiting team.
This defeat makes the last game of the season against Rosslyn Pk a must win and the biggest game of the season. It is on 19th April so hopefully everyone will be available for this crunch game.
Thanks to Sue for first aid and the shirts and Danny for his excellent food.
Bring on 19th April
