Old Cats deservedly claimed a second league win of the season away at Reigate but the game was far closer than it should have been as by common consent the boys, playing fast open rugby should have been out of sight by half time.
In cold clear conditions but on a heavy pitch the boys started strongly making numerous breaks out wide with the forwards securing a mountain of ball especially at the scrum. It was a surprise a score had not come earlier before after more good work from Bow, Joe J and Max, Alex scampered over from 2 yards out. The conversion was missed but it was not long before Cats went over again after a flowing move, with the ball going through numerous hands, saw the dangerous Harry cut inside and go under the posts for Alex to convert. Max fell just short, Joe J was held up and a couple of overlaps missed to leave us 12-0 up at half time.
We turned round playing up the hill and all credit to Reigatians they came back at us hard and we were camped in our half for a particularly sticky period where a number of home charges were repelled by some excellent defence. David H at full back was also have a busy time and looked pretty secure under the high ball. Eventually, however, Reigatians got their score to make it 12-7 after some flimsy tackling midfield. The boys then surged back up field and Bow was unlucky to be denied on a couple of occasions. The boys then saw the game out relatively comfortably with Captain Dobbo claiming a number of line out steals to see us home.
So a satisfactory win in some testing conditions and with 3 or 4 boys still bedding in. Special mention to Joe J who had a great game at 7 and Harry H who looked very dangerous on the wing, whilst the front 5 (including George D) went well particularly at scrum time. For once, our attack lacked a bit of snap both off the scrum and out wide so there is lots to work on the coming weeks before we entertain Cobham at home on the 13th Dec
