Brighton U15 vs Old Cats U15.

21 boys travelled down to Brighton on Sunday for a very beneficial friendly which should have blown away some cobwebs and also gave us a chance to look at all the boys both new and old.

We were not helped by a couple of unfortunate cry offs in the morning but this did not deter the boys from playing some excellent rugby throughout. New boys Joe James and Tom Reynolds made excellent débuts, whilst Kieron Norman and George Duckett also gave excellent accounts of themselves.

Will H scored an excellent try, having been set up by Joe. The line outs went well and the scrummage was reasonably solid but in spite of Will B’s hard work we need to work harder on our rucking and general intensity up front.

Out wide, Brighton exposed our lack of drift defence on a couple of occasions so this is another area we need to work on. Overall the coaches were pleased with the game and it was a good benchmark for where we are at as a squad. Brighton are top of Sussex Div 1 and have a number of boys in the Quins academy and it would be interesting to play them in a full game with a full side.
