Cats surge to the top of Div 2 with decisive win at Rosslyn Park.

Cats arrived at a wind - swept Richmond Pk please to see a wide pitch which was relatively firm under foot and the sun shining.
Captain Dobbo won the toss and elected to play against the wind in the first half. The boys would have to work hard for their points and quickly started to warm to their task. With the forwards picking and going the boys were starting to make inroads into the Park defence with the “fresh” Joe James, the relentless Ollie Repton and rumbling Rob all to the fore. Out wide the boys had to readjust their passing but after a few misdirected the wingers started to ask questions. First Harry scorched down the wing and then after good hands in midfield from Harry and Will H, Bow glided over in the corner for the first score expertly converted by Joe. The boys started to warm to their task, Luke, Harry, Ollie S and Felix showed in defence and attack and it was not long before Harry was flying down the wing once again. This time he was held up 10 metres out but expertly kept the ball alive with an off load to Will H who with 3 defenders on him slipped it onto the outstanding Alex in support. A top try which saw the ball travel through a number of pairs of hands. Joe failed to convert and Rosslyn Pk came right back into it when their tricky centre and best player chipped over the defence, gathered and went over under the sticks for an excellent converted score. Back came Cats with another corker of a score. David, strong all day at full back, collected a kick and fed Will H who glided up the middle and once again kept the ball alive. Harry and the forwards took it on and the ball was spun wide to Bow who cut inside, recycled, to allow Joe to put Will H over in the corner.
A classic team try once again expertly converted by Joe.

The second half saw Park compete strongly and the Cats slightly let the foot of the gas though with a bit more luck Bow could have gone over in the corner and a couple of overlaps were missed. Lewis was dynamic all game, Will B carried and defended superbly whilst Scott’s all round work at the set piece meant a plentiful supply of ball for the backs.Harry was replaced by Tom, having taken a knock to the head, it was left to Tom to have the last word. The ball was once again worked out to the left where Tom cut inside and outstripped the defence to score in the right hand corner demonstrating his searing pace. The boys were still attacking when the final whistle went.

A potentially tricky fixture produced a comfortable result with all 19 boys playing their part in an entertaining game. Thanks to all the parents for their brilliant support and Helen for doing the shirts.
Thanks also to the Rosslyn Park lads for being such competitive and fair opposition. Special thanks to the RP parents who produced some delicious batches of cakes and last but not least, thanks to Sue the lady doctor who assisted with our concussion incident.

Next up Wimbledon in a friendly away followed by a massive league game against Chobham on 28th Feb.
