U15 in an Epic Battle

Old Cats U15 put in a great performance against a very well drilled Farnham side, but fall short.

Looking at the Farnham side warming up, it was clear they were a very well drilled and clinical team and the Old Cats boys would need to put in a sterling performances just to make it an even match. There were some nervous parents on the side lines (me included).

Our boys would not disappoint though and I should learn to have more faith. The game started as a slow simmer and then progressed turned into a boiling and fizzing game. Although the early exchanges of the game were even, Old Cats were first to chalk up a converted try with Harrison using all of his power and pace to go over the white wash. Then Farnham came back with a well worked team try. The score looked as it was going into half time at 7-5 to Old Cats and then at the closing minutes of the first half Farnham chalked up another try.

At the start of the second half it seemed like Farnham came out the more fired up team which saw some quick tries. Old Cats heads did not go down though. First, a great team effort with Leo going over the try line and then Harrison gets on the end of a well worked team effort to go over for his brace of tries, with the game finishing 19-27 to Farnham.

Yes the boys felt disappointed. It was a game with a little more mature decision making, it could have been within their grasp to win. However against a very strong opposition, it was a performance which the whole team, parents and club are proud of. It shows just how far this team has come along in this season.

Some special mentions:
Charlie – absolutely nailed his catches from the high ball and line outs. Made some really strong powerful runs getting us up the pitch.
Lawrence – getting quickly over the ball in the rucks and proving the firm base for Paddy to get the ball out to our backs.
Josh D – Great positioning on the field, nailing his catches and making quick yards up the field to keep the pressure on.
Harrison - a real hand full for the opposition, some strong powerful runs and rewarded with a brace of tries.

Man of the match goes to Will. Really took the match with the opposition. Quick thinking on penalties, keeping the pressure on. Tackled anything that moved and some things that didn’t!
