Old Cats U13 First League Match

It was a long trip to our first league game of the season. Playing on Rosslyn Parks 4 G pitch, this was beautiful, but very expansive and was sure to test the stamina and fitness of our boys.

In the first 5 minutes Rosslyn Park put Old Cats under sustained pressure, but the boys were coping well with what the opposition was throwing at them, until a couple of mistakes that compounded, which resulted in a try to Rosslyn Park. That was the story of the first half, where Rosslyn Park was ruthless in taking advantage of the Old Cats few mistakes and capitalised on them.

In the second half Old Cats put in a better performance, making the turnovers and some areas of individual brilliance was turning the game, but we could not get the score which we really deserved. Even the Rosslyn Park coaches were commenting on some of our boys skills.
In fairness on the day Rosslyn Park was the better team, but the performance from Old Cats should have meant the score line difference of a couple of tries. Small errors resulted in a big difference in this game. On a different day, this would of been a different result.

On the positives:

Our scrum was solid once again with Rosslyn Park having to work quickly in getting the ball out on their put in to avoid the turnover.
We were holding our own at the rucks and turning the ball over a fair amount of the time.

This performance was 100% better than our last match against Bromley. The boys knew they had to step up and they did.

The team spirit is still strong. Summed up by Charlie, who walked off the field being in a tough match but still had his ‘trade mark’ smile on his face – he likes playing in this team!

The team’s thoughts go out to Joe who suffered a knock to the head last week. Hopefully he will be back with us ready for our next match against Guildford at the end of the month.
