Old Cats Under 13 Getting Stronger

This week Old Cats under 13 team took on Edenbridge.

Our scrum was solid, holding our own and hooking the ball meant we could gain good possession and passing it to our backs with a combination of hands, switch passing all making inroads into Edenbridge territory. However first blood went to Edenbridge with their LARGE pack driving over the line.

Old Cats were not put off and put together some phases, driving up the hill. The backs put together a series of plays with Callum, Seb and Josh D making breaks. Edenbridge defence kicked in leaving it to our forwards to punch a few metres further forward, with Harrison picking the ball from the scrum to land over the try line. Half time and all even.

Second half, Edenbridge came out firing and making decent phases and drove over the Old Cats try line.

In previous seasons this team would of started to crumble, at playing well, but going behind. But this season it is a very different Old Cats team. They started to pull decent phases together, stretching Edenbridge defence across the pitch. A clear try was on, but the last pass from Old Cats went forward. Old Cats won back possession and Seb made a strong run going past three players with again a clear try scoring opportunity on, but was called up by the ref for a high hand off. Again Old Cats won back the possession passing the ball to Seb who linked up with Paddy, Callum and Leo, looping back to get the ball to score a well deserved try, with Ross adding the conversion.

Harry & Charlie who joined us last week were joined by Joe who played his debut performance for Old Cats. All three players have given good accounts of themselves and have fitted into the squad very well.

Again there were some great individual performances which made it a difficult decision for man of the match, but after careful consideration, Seb was given the well deserved award.

After the match the boys were awarded their club ties by Reece the Old Cats first team XV coach, an important milestone. Our boys are growing up, playing decent rugby developing as a team both on and off the pitch.

Final Score 12 – 12
Try Scorers: Harrison; Seb
Conversion: Ross
Man of the Match - Seb
