Back in September’s away fixture Cats defeated their latest opposition 10-33 so would be sensing a home victory after their excellent winning performance against Warlingham RFC before Christmas.

Cats were quickly up to speed straight after kick-off – following a turnover Bailey Mondesir broke through and fed George Nye who set up Zach Rhodes to score between the posts. Tom Clayton secured the extras to give Cats an early 7-0 lead.

Moments later the score was doubled after another turnover – Matt Brown passed to Tom Clayton who powered through a gap to touch down and then successfully convert to make it 14-0.

Cats scrum was causing Law Society a few problems and one against the head lead to a third try scored by Oscar Nye. Tom once again converted to extend the lead to 21-0.

The all important bonus point was secured when Matt Ward set up Tom Clayton to score his second of the afternoon. 26-0 was a positive start for Cats.

The fifth try of the first half was created by new recruit Arlo Copp. The second rower caught the ball straight from kick off and then shrugged off five or six opposition players to feed skipper Oscar Nye for his second. Tom Clayton’s conversion made it 33-0.

Cats were totally dominating the match – following a quick free kick Sam Lloyd was next to score with Tom adding the two points for a 40-0 lead.

to dent Cats chances of a clean sheet. Half time score 40-5.

Cats continued to dominate in the second half and scored a further six tries.

First up winger Ed Fyfe took a stationary ball, beat five players and gave Matthew Wilson the chance to make it 45-5.

Cats Vice-Captain George Perry was next to get on the score sheet after a scrum was turned over on the opposition five metre line. Tom Clayton put away his 6th conversion for a 52-5 lead.

The pressure continued – next up a quick tapped penalty was picked up by Bailey Mondesir who off loaded to replacement Lewis Young who then fed winger George Nye to touch down.

Bailey was again amongst the action with a super back of the hand off load to Will Buxton who had a simple opportunity to increase the score to 62-5.

Lewis Young then backed himself by going on a powerful solo try scoring run. With Tom Clayton off with an ankle injury, Kristian Taylor slotted home a terrific conversion from the edge of the touchline to make it 69-5.

And there was still time for George Nye to run in Cats 12th try. Not for the first time in the afternoon full back Alex Criscuolo weaved his way through the opposition, this time from the half way line, to finally off load to George for his second and top a 74- 5 final score.

Overall the whole squad put in a powerful performance, solid scrummaging and lineouts with flowing moves from the backs – which was appreciated by Cats faithful supporters who had braved the cold afternoon.

With the three teams above them in Counties 2 Surrey all winning, Cats remained eight points clear of fifth placed Purley John Fisher and four points behind Chipstead.

Buoyed up by their great start to 2024, Cats travel to Ashtead on Saturday 13th January for an encounter with Old Freemens RFC who they defeated at home 23-13 back in October.
