Due to the England v Ireland 6 Nations match on Saturday the 9 th of March, Old Caterhamians welcomed Old Blues to a morning kick-off at Park Avenue so lucky ticket holders could to get to Twickenham in time.

In the away fixture back in November last year, Cats beat Old Blues 11-22 so would be looking for a similar outcome and hopefully a bonus point.

For most of the first half honours were even. Tom Clayton kicked two penalties to give Cats a 6-0 lead only for Blues to score a converted try just on the stroke of half time to take a 6-7 lead into the break.

The second half was a different story. Benefitting from the downward slope of the pitch Cats took control of the match completely dominating the play and ultimately preventing Blues from scoring.

Cats first try came from some strong work by the pack with a series of pick and goes before the ball was pinged out to the backs. Tom Clayton’s long pass evaded the arms of an Old Blues player and was well taken by Theo Kenyon who set up Zach Uddoh to score in the corner. Cats were up 11-7.

Next, following more Cats forward pressure on the Old Blues five-metre line, the ball was moved from Oscar Nye to Tom Clayton who drew in a defender and passed to Alex Criscuolo. Determined to cross the line AC evaded several challenges with a jinking run and scored. The conversion was a formality and Cats had stretched their lead to 18-7.

Having set up an earlier try, Theo Kenyon was next to get on the score sheet. From a scrum on the Blues 22, Oscar Nye threw a pass to Alex Criscuolo who slipped the ball to Zach Rhodes. The scrum half found Theo who with a powerful run increased Cats advantage to 23-7.

Cats were totally on top and continued to pressurise the opposition try line. Oscar Nye almost scored after a determined run but was thwarted by the Old Blues defence. The ball was recycled for Zach Rhodes to pass to Will Buxton who in turn gave Bayley Mondesir the chance to touch down between the sticks. With the simple conversion in the bag, Cats were now up 30-7.

There was still time for two further tries. After Cats moved the ball from one side to the other Louis Young got on the end of long pass and powered over for 35-7.

Then on the last play of the match, an audacious cross field kick by Zach Rhodes found winger Zach Uddoh who put the icing on the cake with his second of the match. A resounding win for Cats 40-7.

Full Time Score: Old Caterhamians 40-7 Old Blues

This was another excellent win for the lads with a dominant no points conceded second half performance including the welcome bonus point. So following this latest outing Cats remain in 3 rd spot in the Counties 2 Surrey League table but are now 6 points clear of 4 th placed Chipstead, with 3 games still to play.

On Saturday 15 th of March Cats travel to Old Rutlishians, who for most of the season have been leading the way in the league with just a single defeat. Cats were beaten 6-18 at home by their opponents back in December so plenty of incentive for the lads to get stuck into this one.
